SUMMARY:Fishtrap Fireside
DESCRIPTION:Bring in the new year with Fishtrap Fireside on Friday\, January 6 featuring readings from local Wallowa County writers Sebastian Hobbs\, Kathryn Kemp\, and Nathan Slinker.\n\n \n\nFishtrap Fireside is a monthly reading series designed to feature diverse voices from local writers. Each month offers a fresh look at what people of the West are thinking about and writing down. Fireside takes place in Fishtrap's new event space\, the historic Bowlby Building on Main Street in Enterprise. The event is free and open to the public. Plus\, anyone anywhere can take in Fireside live on Fishtrap's Facebook page and watch the recording afterwards online on Fishtrap's YouTube Channel and at Fishtrap.org. \n\n \n\nJanuary's Fishtrap Fireside is sponsored by Copper Creek Mercantile\, a locally owned store with items for all types of animals\, an eclectic array of gifts\, accent decor\, and lawn and garden products. \n\n \n\nMore on January's featured readers.\n\n \n\nSebastian Hobbs grew up in Lostine\, raising rainbow trout\, sheep\, and goats with his parents and two younger brothers. His writing began to become meaningful in high school\, but Sebastian took a break from writing poetry while studying at Reed College. With quarantine\, he began to write short stories and letters\, and have more recently continued to pursue poetry. In addition to writing\, Sebastian has spent time studying medium-format film photography\, Argentine tango\, piano\, and painting.\n\n \n\nKathryn Kemp spent her childhood in the woods of Joseph\, Oregon before moving to the East Coast for eight years for her education. After receiving her Master's Degree in Social Work from Columbia University in New York City\, she returned to Wallowa County in 2019 to proudly serve the residents of her home community. Kathryn firmly believes in the power of rural communities to collaborate and design local solutions for recovery and healing. She also enjoys helping clients of all ages heal in the midst of relationship difficulties\, life transitions\, acute and developmental traumas\, and attachment wounds. In her free time\, she enjoys singing\, writing\, drinking tea\, doing yoga in the sunshine\, and cuddling with her cat\, Larry. She is currently earning her Doctoral degree in Social Work through Walla Walla University. \n\n \n\nNathan Slinker has published poems in many journals including Third Coast\, Mid-American Review\, The Greensboro Review\, and Kenyon Review Online. He has been a Fishtrap fellow\, a semi-finalist for the "Discovery"/Boston Review Poetry Prize\, and he was a finalist for New River Press's Many Voices Prize. He runs Alder Slope Nursery just outside of Enterprise.\n\n \n\nLearn more at Fishtrap.org
