DESCRIPTION:Nerikomi Ceramics Workshop with Cheryl North Coughlan\n\nSaturday\, May 16 | 10:00 AM 2:00 PM\n\n(Optional Finishing): Saturday\, May 30 | 10:00 AM 12:00 PM\n\nCost: $95\n\n\n\nNerikomi is a traditional Japanese ceramic technique that involves stacking\, layering\, and folding different colored clays to create intricate patterns that run throughout the entire piece. This meticulous hand-building method also known as neriage requires patience and care\, with processes similar to creating glass canes that are sliced\, arranged\, and compressed into one-of-a-kind works.\n\nIn this intimate workshop\, students will work with pre-colored porcelain clay to explore this meditative technique firsthand.\n\nDuring the first session\, students will be introduced to the history\, styles\, and possibilities of Nerikomi before selecting a project\, developing a design\, and beginning the layering process. A lunch break is built into the class time.\n\nThe optional second session offers the opportunity to finish your piece by applying a clear glaze (making it food-safe) or by wet-sanding and waxing for a smooth\, matte surface bringing your work fully to life.\n\nSupplies Provided:\n\nAll materials\, including pre-colored porcelain clay\, tools\, and firing\, are included.\n\nAdult and youth over 16\n\nExperience Level: Some ceramics experience is helpful\, but beginners are warmly welcome\n\nClass Size: Maximum 7 students\n\nInstructor Bio:\n\nCheryl North Coughlan is an abstract & ceramic artist and instructor known for her approachable teaching style\, whimsical creations and welcoming studio environment.
