SUMMARY:Rotary Peace Pole Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Rotary Club of Wallowa County will be meeting on the grounds of the Wallowa Lake Lodge on September 21\, 2023 to celebrate the International Day of Peace. The International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981. In 2001\, the UN General Assembly voted to designate this day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. The Rotary Club of Wallowa County was designated a Rotary Peace Builder Club over ten years ago and part of the mission of Rotary International is to advance world understanding\, goodwill\, and peace. During the ceremony in recognition of the International Day of Peace\, a Peace Pole\, recently installed on the Wallowa Lake Lodge grounds\, will be dedicated. This will be the second Peace Pole erected by the club. The first is located at the Wallowa County Courthouse. Spiraling around the pole will be a message of peace in several different languages including Ukrainian\, English\, and Nez Perce. The public is invited to attend.
