Artist Talk: Nakia Cloud on Contemporary Ledger Art

Join us for a special evening at the Josephy Center for Arts & Culture on Wednesday, July 15, celebrating The Nez Perce Story Continues exhibition and the rich tradition of Ledger Art represented in the show.

The Josephy Center will host an open house beginning at 6:00 p.m., offering visitors an opportunity to view the exhibition and spend time with the artwork before the evening’s presentation.

At 7:00 p.m., featured artist Nakia Cloud will present a talk on Ledger Art—a contemporary Native art form created on historic ledger book pages that blends traditional storytelling with modern artistic expression.

Nakia Cloud is one of the sixteen outstanding artists represented in The Nez Perce Story Continues exhibition and has several works featured in the show. In addition to his work as a fine artist, Nakia is a fluent speaker of the Nez Perce language and teaches Nez Perce language classes at the elementary school in Lapwai, Idaho.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about contemporary Ledger Art and hear directly from one of the artists helping carry Nez Perce cultural traditions forward through both art and language.
