Brown Bag Lunch With Ellen Morris Bishop

Brown Bag is a free event that feature informal presentations and discussions on the first three Tuesday noons of each month.  Often, Brown Bag programs shine a light on current exhibits in the Josephy Center Gallery. The current exhibit is “Wild Landscape of Eastern Oregon,” featuring stunning work of many local and regional photographers. On September 6, professional geologist and photographer Ellen Morris Bishop, who is represented in the show, will ask:

“What Is a ‘wild landscape’ in the Anthropocene?" How do we -- or CAN we--capture wildness in a time of climate change and human domination of everything “Natural”? To what extent must/should we exclude humans or human influence from our "Wild Landscapes" images?  And how can we be aware of these influences, and maybe capture them, specifically?

Ellen is a professional geologist who has worked and taught throughout the Northwest. She has recently been involved in the new Wallowology center in Joseph, where she is the Director of Education and Outreach. Ellen is the author and photographer of the award-winning In Search of Ancient Oregon among many books and articles.
