The Eagle Cap Extreme runs through the rugged Wallowa Mountains in Northeastern Oregon. It has been described as challenging, fun and drop-dead beautiful by participants and fans alike. This all-volunteer race receives high marks for professionalism and for being very well run. We focus on making the mushers experience as safe, comfortable and fun as possible. The mushers and their dogs really love their fans, especially all the school kids that make a special field trip to see the event.

The event starts with Wednesday morning Vet Checks on Main Street in Enterprise, 9 am followed by afternoon checks in Joseph at 1 pm. The Vet Checks are a fun way to meet the mushers and interact with the dogs! They are free and open to the public.  Then join the mushers at a community potluck at the Cloverleaf Hall in Enterprise.

The race starts the next day at 1:00 pm at the Fergi Ski Area, about 9 miles southeast of Joseph. Fans can line up on the side of the starting chute to root for their favorite team!  Race Start Parking is provided nearby, with a shuttle starting at 10:45 or prepare for a 5 to 10 minute walk on a plowed road to get to the Fergi Ski Area. The race start is also free and open to the public.  There will be a banquet on Saturday evening at the Cloverleaf Hall in Enterprise.

Vet Checks

Come meet the mushers and their faithful teams in both Joseph and Enterprise! The ECX veterinary team will be happy to answer questions when they are not examining dogs and talking to mushers. Merchandise sales. Please leave personal pets at home.

PLEASE: No Pets (Dogs, Ferrets, Bunnies, etc)

Musher Potluck & Program

Wednesday, January 17: 6:30 PM at the Community Center in Joseph, OR

Potluck ~ Doors Open 6:00 PM / Potluck 6:30 PM

Potluck and musher meet and greet. Mushers will draw for their bib numbers. Take this special opportunity to sit and talk with mushers and their families and learn about their unique sport. Bring a dish to share with everyone. Paper goods, plastic ware, and drinks are provided.

Eagle Cap Extreme Race Start

Thursday, January 18, 12 PM (noon): 200 mile race, 100 mile race, and 1st Stage of the 31 mile, 2-day mid-distance race.

Friday, January 19, 12 PM (noon): 2nd Stage of the 31 mile, 2-day mid-distance race. Please check with Race Central as the start time of the second stage may adjust due to race needs.

Come EARLY to catch the provided shuttles from the parking area to race start. Cheer on the teams as they leave the chute! Prearranged school bus access. Merchandise and concession sales. Please leave personal pets at home. Shuttle Starts at 9:45 AM BE EARLY!!!

Salt Creek Summit Crossing

Thursday, January 18: 1 PM thru 3 PM (estimation)

• Salt Creek Summit

An alternative vantage point. See the racers up close on the trail. Snow shoers and cross country skiers may want to use this as their starting point. Hike or ski 1/4 mile to see mushers on the loop. Snow Park Pass required to park here (passes available for purchase at Joseph Hardware, Sports Corral, Outlaw Motor Sports, or Enterprise DMV).

Finish At Fergi

Thursday, January 18 - Saturday, January 20

• Ferguson Ridge Ski Area

31 Mile 2-Day Mid-Distance Races: Thursday and Friday late afternoon to evening

100 Mile Race: Friday AM

200 Mile Race: Saturday early AM through early PM

Drive right up to the Fergi Ski Area parking lot to watch the teams finish! Saturday ski while you wait!

Awards Reception
