Join Master Artist Rodd Ambroson for this 8 session introduction to oil painting. Participants will be able to paint competently at an introductory level. Drawing will be emphasized. Working from home is highly encouraged and will support your in-class instruction.

Production goals/options with demonstration:

Skill Sets

1. Preparation for painting support/surface
   1. Stretch canvas
   2. Jesso surface

2. Understanding of tools and pigments used in oil painting
   1. Brushes/Pallet knives
   2. Cleaning supplies and techniques

3. Understanding color theory
   1. Mixing paint
   2. Producing compliments of three primary colors

4. Understanding composition
   1. Golden mean
   2. Rule of thirds
   3. 60% 40% light dark contrast

5. Basic rules to oil painting
   1. Fat over lean
   2. Thick over thin
   3. Slow drying over fast drying
   4. Never put your pallet on your chair 

6. Most importantly, increased visual acuity
