Native American Art Show

 The Josephy Center is honored to present an Exhibit of art by Native American Artists through the Crow’s Shadow Institute of The Arts. The Opening Reception for the Exhibit will be Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m. Curator for the Exhibit, Joe McCormack, organized the show and was happy to bring his friends back to the county after a hiatus from previous shows and auction’s at the Wallowa LakeLodge. Joe says “I think this is a great opportunity to bring Crow Shadow back into the Valley just to make an awareness of its existence to our folks up here, they’ve been involved with the Nez Perce art in the Wallowas in our early days and most of our artists have done things with them in the past in terms of print making, it might open an opportunity for local artists here to do the same…”
 
There are thirty images provided by the Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts located in the St. Andrews Mission Schoolhouse in the Umatilla Indian Reservation outside Pendleton, OR. Renowned artist James Lavadour (Walla Walla) and friends incorporated Crow’s Shadow in 1992. The non-profit organization aims to provide opportunities for Native Americans through artistic development. With an emphasis on contemporary, fine-art printmaking as well as a venue for teaching the traditional Native arts practices such as weaving, bead working, regalia making, etc. of the Columbia Plateau region.
