Are you someone who is not a Poet? Maybe you’re poetry-writing-curious, but sometimes poetry feels intimidating. Well, we have great news for you. You don’t have to consider yourself a Poet to write poetry.

Join Kirsten Rohla Saturday, October 19 at Fishtrap for some fun poetry exercises and connections. We’ll write poems, talk about what we’ve written, what we like about it, and maybe share some poems if you want to. Then, we’ll revise and write some more. Kirsten will make it easy with fun and creative prompts.

This is a light class: no analysis or focusing on formal structure. It’s a creative poetry gathering where you’ll learn some simple tools and add elements of symbolism and metaphors in an accessible way you never thought possible. The goal is to have fun with words in a creative, non-intimidating atmosphere. If you like poetry but have never written it, or you have written poems and want to write more, this is a great opportunity to build your skills and confidence.

Bring your laptop or a notebook and your favorite writing utensils.

Kirsten Rohla lives in Joseph, OR, and has been writing stories since she could form words on paper. She has also earned degrees from the University of Montana and Black Hills State University, is currently pursuing a second master’s through Central Washington University, and has taught for almost two decades, recently partnering with SOU in their dual credit program. While Kirsten loves to write in all genres, she has recently fallen back in love with short form fiction and poetry.
