Spring Sculpting Class -Mushrooms!

Let’s spring into ceramics with a sculpture workshop. This is an intermediate/advanced workshop for those who have previously taken ceramics classes and feel comfortable and confident with the clay medium. The topic is mushrooms the subject is what the student desires. Learn new tricks to shape and move clay.

Starting on spring equinox, March 19th.

About the Instructor, Emily Garland:

My normal occupation is professional gardener, and this is what brought me to the area in 2018 to manage the garden at the Minam River Lodge. Which was a dream of an experience, living and working in the wilderness, I committed seasonally for three years until deciding to stay full time in the county looking for a way to start my own farm/business.

Although gardening is my occupation Ceramics has always been my passion, I guess I just need to have my hands in the earth one way or another. I first fell in love with the art form when my father dated my high school ceramics teacher and I took classes all four years till graduation in 2007. I continued the education over the last sixteen years by taking classes while obtaining my associates degree at Central Oregon Community College, Mount Hood Community College and Southern Oregon University.

I have also had the opportunity of working in a communal setting studio “Firestick Pottery” in Ojai California and at a private artists studio in Santa Ynez, California, working out of my teepee studio I set up with my wheel and shelves inside. Through the years I have had the experience of working at many different studios, so in turn I understand the importance of working together with one another through patience, clear communication and the utmost importance of keeping a clean studio. Keeping a clean and tidy studio is important for all participants health and for students to avoid mistakes like glazing with different cone formulations for example.
