Winter Fishtrap

Mark your calendars for Winter Fishtrap 2020: "Dams"
Join concerned citizens of the West January 17-19, 2020 for Winter Fishtrap: Throughout the twentieth century, the idea of building dams on rivers of the West was a sign of hope, progress, and American ingenuity. To many, they represent something very different today. Join us for Winter Fishtrap, a three-day conference in Joseph, Oregon, where we’ll explore why these dams were built, how they transformed the West, and at what cost.

Friday Night Keynote
“Living in a Dammed World” with historian Bill Lang

Saturday
A full day of discussions and conversations about how dams have shaped the history of the West and our future with them. From the big federally funded projects to right here at home at Wallowa Lake, we hope Winter Fishtrap: Dams will help spark a new understanding on a subject that influences all our lives.

Sunday Closing Address
“Tamanwit – Natural Law / Kya’ak ha’ast – Air / Cu’uc – Water / Tiica’m – Land / Nati’tayt – People” with Charles F. Sams III, Communications Director of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation
