Improvisation is a powerful tool for building and strengthening all forms of communication.
Although improv is often portrayed as humorous, there are also many non-comedic forms
and functions. In this workshop we will focus on the key components of
improvisation– connection, listening, and staying present in the moment.
Through games and scene work we will explore what it means to say “yes”
and ways to avoid saying “no”. In addition, we will explore what it means to
work in collaboration versus working in competition. We will focus on teamwork to build
a story through character development as well as creating and addressing conflict.
Registrants can expect to learn to stay open and present in the moment, engage in
team-building exercises, and learn how to incorporate “yes, and…” into not just improve,
but also conversation at large.
Sarah Hennessey is a Nimiipuu poet, performer, playwright and youth empowerment
theater practitioner residing in the Lenni-Lenape lands of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
She is a member of the Nimiipuu writers collective luk’upsiimey, as well as a member
of the Chester County based improv group Better Than Bacon.
